Gal Gadot As Wonder Woman

You’d be hard-pressed to find a fan boy or girl who was upset about the news that Fast and Furious alum Gal Gadot would be strapping on the Amazonian armor in 2017 as DC’s Wonder Woman. Regardless of your overall impressions of DC’s attempts to get its comics up on screen (it’s way too serious), the Israeli born actress and model is a fantastic choice to embody the fiercest warrior in the DC Universe.

Today, the conversation over Wonder Woman began in earnest after a short teaser video was shown on the CW. The footage shows glimpses of Gadot’s on-screen journey. She plays Diana, one of the most capable warriors in a tribe of Amazons who hide, secluded from the world. Diana, of course, is curious about the larger world, so she embarks on a journey to find her place.

Judging from the turn-of-the-century costumes and scenery depicted in the film footage, fans can expect something of a period piece. In fact, around the 34 second mark, the acute observer will notice some fellows in rather distinct Nazi uniforms getting their butts kicked by Gadot in warrior garb. This lends credence to the notion that the film will take place in the 30’s and 40’s before moving Gadot into the future (so she can chill with Batman and Superman). That narrative decision echoes Marvel’s Captain America film from 2011.

No word yet on how Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor (played by Star Trek’s Chris Pine), will fit into the plot.

There’s still a full year (and a big fight between Batman and Superman) between now and Wonder Woman’s June 23, 2017 release date. If this initial footage is any indication, though, it’ll be well worth the wait.
