Harvey Weinstein has been formally arrested after turning himself in Friday morning at the New York Police Department. Sources say that Weinstein is facing both first and third-degree rape charges as well as a first-degree criminal sexual act charge.

There were around 80 women that came forward with accusations against Harvey Weinstein, but some of the incidents fall outside of the statute of limitations in New York. There were three main allegations that were involved in his current arrest.

The police released an official statement about the arrest.

“The NYPD thanks these brave survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice. The arrest and ensuing charges are the result of a joint investigation between the NYPD and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.”

Following Weinstein’s booking, he will be taken to a criminal court to enter a plea. His bail will reportedly be set at $1 million and his passport will be taken to ensure that he does not try to leave the country.

It was just around six months ago that the allegations about Harvey Weinstein started coming about in a major way. On October 17 he was pushed out of the Weinstein Company, the high-level production company he founded with his brother. He also had a variety of career honors rescinded and repudiated after the allegations started coming to light.

The former producer has been under investigation by various jurisdictions for months on both sides of the country since the formal allegations started taking place. Weinstein’s attorney has maintained along the way the claim that his client “has never engaged in nonconsensual sexual acts,” although they seem to be admitting to a different version of the story now.
