Jennifer Lawrence and boyfriend Darren Aronofsky have split after nearly a year of dating. The two started dating shortly after wrapping the controversial film Mother!, which Lawrence starred in and Aronofsky directed.

The couple was very quiet about their relationship throughout its duration. Twenty-seven-year-old Lawrence was first spotted with the 48-year-old while dining out in New York. A couple months later the two were seen dining out in Los Angeles as well. They didn’t seem to be trying to hide their relationship, but the only time they posed together on the red carpet was at the Mother! premiere in New York.

A source says that the split took place a month ago and that it was amicable.

“It was amicable and they are still friends.”

Lawrence spoke out about the relationship at one point explaining that she had a thing for the director prior to working together on their recent film.

“I had a crush on him when he pitched to me, and that was a year before we started rehearsing. But he was a professional, which only made it worse for me. We just kind of formed a friendship. He knew how I felt; he never told me how he felt. I mean, I assumed. And then friendship turned into a partnership once we started working. And when the movie was done, I was like, ‘Alright, you’re my boyfriend.'”

She has also said that he is a great communicator on set and in relationships. One thing that she appreciated about dating him was that she never felt confused with where he stood compared to the other relationships she’d been in.

Lawrence has previously dated actor Nicholas Hoult and Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Aronofsky had a long-term relationship with Rachel Weisz, with whom he shares a ten-year-old son.

Mother! also starred Javier Bardem, Domhhnall Gleeson, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kristen Wiig. The psychological horror film has gotten a variety of good and bad critiques but has been considered controversial across the board.
