A Kesha documentary will soon be released on Apple music. The project is entitled Rainbow – The Film, and will provide a behind the scenes look at the creation of her album Rainbow, as well as show footage of live shows and her performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards. The project was directed by Kesha, Lagan Sebert (her brother,) and Kevin Hayden. It’s set to be released on August 10.

Kesha released a personal statement about the project.

“Making Rainbow the album was such a therapeutic process and given the opportunity to turn it into a three-dimensional piece of art has helped me find even deeper healing and catharsis. I hope this film inspires others to never give up even if you feel full of hurt or lost because after the storm comes a rainbow. Depression, anxiety and mental illness are things we all need to talk about more, and there is no shame in asking for help. Making the decision to work on yourself is the bravest thing you can do. I hope this film helps bring light and love to everyone.”

Kesha has had a long and complicated career. The star first came out on the scene years ago when she was a teenager. She started working with Dr. Luke right from the start but ultimately ended up in a complicated legal battle with the songwriter and manager.

In 2014 she went to rehab and started “telling doctors stories about [Gottwald], claiming that he drugged her, sexually abused her and physically assaulted her. The sources say the doctors kept notes that will become evidence in her lawsuit.” Shortly thereafter she filed a claim that Dr. Luke had raped her.

During this period of legal battles she went four years without releasing any music at all, so her comeback with the song “Praying” was a big return for the artist. Kesha is currently on tour with Macklemore.
