Nicole Kidman and some other a-list actresses have posed without makeup for the recent Pirelli calender. This year’s edition also features Uma Thurman, Helen Mirren, Robin Wright, Charlotte Rampling, Julianne Moore, Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet, Lea Seydoux, Jessica Chastain, Alicia Vikander, Zhang Ziyi, and Lupita Nyong’o.
Photographer Peter Lindbergh shot everything in analog and went photoshop free. Everything was shot in industrial locations in Los Angeles, New York, Berlin, and Paris.
Nicole said that she thought she was doing a test shoot in her t-shirt and was surprised to hear that no, that was the final cut.
Helen Mirren called the shoot “dangerous” in the sense that it’s so exposed, but that she sees that as a good thing. She went on to discuss how platforms like Instagram and the ease of photo manipulation apps have taken away from the art of photography in recent years.
“In a way our eyes need to become readjusted, because we’re so used to these spectacularly enhanced digital images and here we’re saying, ‘No let’s go back to a portrait of humanity.’ It undoubtedly represents a culture shift.”
