Playboy launched careers for many young stars. These are nine celebs who got their start at Playboy - in one way or another. A few may surprise you.
1. Anna Nicole Smith
The 1993 Playmate of the Year winner went on to have a modeling career, starred in films like Naked Gun 33⅓, had her own reality show and served as a spokeswoman for TrimSpa, before her untimely passing.
2. Kendra Wilkinson
Once one of Hugh Hefner’s trio of girlfriends, Kendra was never named a Playboy Playmate, although she was featured in the magazine in 2008. Since leaving the Playboy mansion she’s starred in two of her own shows and competed on Marriage Boot Camp.
3. Erika Eleniak
Erika featured in the July 1989 issue of Playboy. After taking it off, her career took off. She went on to modeling and roles on Charles in Charge and Baywatch and has also appeared in a whole lot of other films…
4. Kelly Monaco
Monaco became the Playmate of the Month in 1997. She then landed her first television role on Baywatch and went to receive two Emmy Nominations for her roles on soaps Port Charles and General Hospital. In 2005, Monaco won the first season of Dancing with the Stars.
5. Jenny McCarthy
McCarthy was named Playmate of Year in 1993. This lead to a number of film roles and tv hosting gigs. McCarthy dated Jim Carrey for 5 years and today is an advocate for alternative treatments for autism due to her son’s battle with the disorder.
6. Cynthia Rowley
The iconic fashion designer didn't actually pose for Playboy, but she did get her big break with the magazine. She was in high school when Playboy published a model in a sailor hat and matching skirt of her design. Today, Rowley’s fashions are known worldwide
7. Shel Silverstein
No, the popular children's author never posed for the iconic magazine either. Shel was an up and coming cartoonist when Hugh Hefner’s brand was on the rise. In 1957, Silverstein became one of the leading cartoonists in Playboy.
8. Jeana Keough
Jeana was named Playmate of the Month in 1980, working as a model and starring in various ZZ Top music videos. She was later a cast member on Real Housewives of Orange County and featured on Thintervention. But perhaps her most glamorous job was selling real estate.
9. Pamela Anderson
Anderson’s success with Playboy lasted over twenty years, spring-boarding her to roles on Home Improvement, Baywatch and other shows. The blond bombshell has been married three times, but today remains single.
