After the immense popularity of the Lords Of The Rings trilogy and reduced interest in The Hobbit, doing a TV series was always going to be risky and many think that it will be done on the cheap and that the VFX won't be up to scratch. Oh, ye of little faith! This is for you!

Prime Video has booked two seasons and it is rumored that the series will run for 5. The first season is in postproduction and due for release in September of this year with a new episode every week.
Filming for the second season will commence this coming spring and Amazon expects the budget for the entire series to exceed 1 billion dollars!
Yep, this was done using practical FX.
Does this mean that VFX have gotten so realistic that real life doesn't look real anymore?
