Today, Margaret Talev, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, announced that Michelle Wolf would be the featured entertainer for the annual event, hosted in the spring.

“I’m delighted to announce ‘Nice Lady’ Michelle Wolf as our featured entertainer this year,” Talev shared. “Our dinner honors the First Amendment and strong, independent journalism. Her embrace of these values and her truth-to-power style make her a great friend to the WHCA. Her Pennsylvania roots, stints on Wall Street and in science and self-made, feminist edge make her the right voice now.”

The last female entertainer to host the WHCA dinner was Cecily Strong from Saturday Night Live in 2015. Before that, Wanda Sykes served as the featured entertainment at the Washington D.C. event in 2009.

Last year, Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minaj hosted the WHCA dinner. While it is customary for the president to attend the dinner, Trump opted out in 2017. Instead, iconic Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein spoke at the gathering and presented awards. There is no word yet on whether or not our 45th President will make an appearance at the 2018 event.

Even though it’s only February, 2018 is shaping up to be a banner year for Michelle Wolf. Currently a contributor on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Wolf will leave the Comedy Central satire series later this year to host her own weekly late-night show on Netflix. Additionally, she ended 2017 on a high note with critical praise for her HBO standup special Nice Lady.

After hosting the annual WHCA dinner for thousands of media and political influencers, it will be fascinating to see how Wolf continues to build steam for her career.

The White House Correspondents’ Association dinner takes place on April 28.
