Gilbert aims to defeat Republican representative Mike Bishop and has labeled her campaign a “fight for working families.” The long-time actress and director starred in 206 episodes of the NBC series, and was active in film and television since 1967. She whet her political teeth as president of the Screen Actors Guild from 2001 to 2005.
