Lady Gaga Praises Madonna’s Billboard Speech

Madonna gave an impassioned speech at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on Saturday when she accepted the award for Woman of the Year. This was followed by praise from Lady Gaga, which shocked many fans since Lady Gaga and Madonna have not been seen as friends in the industry.

Lady Gaga tweeted her appreciation over Madonna’s words.

“Your speech at the Billboard Music Awards was inspiring. You’re so brave & strong. Thanks for being that for us girls we need that.”

Both women have spoken out about their perceived rivalry in the past. Madonna once explained:

“The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she blatantly ripped off one of my songs. It’s got nothing to do with ‘she’s taking my crown’ or ‘she’s in some space of mine.’ She has her thing. I do think she’s a very talented singer and songwriter. It was just that one issue.”

Lady Gaga has also been honest about her feelings for Madonna.

“I don’t mean to disrespect Madonna … she’s a nice lady. And she’s had a fantastic, huge career. She’s the biggest pop star of all time. But I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I’m a producer. I’m a writer. What I do is different.”
