Demi Lovato is celebrating five years of sobriety. The 24-year-old last attended rehab at the age of 18. She posted the news and her gratitude to Instagram.

Demi started working as a young child and has dealt with a variety of mental health issues like bipolar disorder, as well as eating disorders and addictions. After experiencing a lot of bullying as a child she became depressed and turned to self-harm.

When Demi was first receiving treatment, she didn’t even realize the extent of the issues.

“I never found out until I went into treatment that I was bipolar. Looking back, it makes sense.”

Since getting sober she has continued to be extremely successful. In an interview last year she shared that:

“Every day is a work in progress so hopefully I make it to 2017 with my sobriety. I take it one day at a time and for today I’m doing great.”
